Domain business, could it be the perfect home based business? It has a number of advantages, some of which I discuss in this article.

Domain business, could it be the perfect home based business? The home

Today, I want to talk about the domain business and I ask the question, could it be the perfect home based business business?

This in my opinion this is the perfect home based business. It has a lot of short term potential and a lot of long term potential. Both of which are important to me and no doubt are also important to you.

You would have noticed that the income from this is recurring, that is when people you introduce to this renew, you get paid again and again. This is great news if you are looking to build up your residual income.

No Physical Stock, A Brilliant Bonus

Domain business, could it be the perfect home based business? Business Paper

As well as that, there is no physical stock. No physical stock is a brilliant bonus. Let me explain why. If you have being involved with any sort of business in the past, you may have had to purchase stock before you sold it for various business reasons.

This means that you had the cost of buying that stock upfront and storing it some place. This drove up your costs and drove down your profit margin at the same time which made it more difficult to make money. If you did not sell the stock, you and you alone absorbed those costs, which made it more difficult to make money.

You could then be absorbing storage costs indefinitely for physical stock you purchased for your business in the past.

If you are currently involved with a business that requires you to buy stock, I recommend very strongly that you keep the points raised above in mind. You do not want to buy stock unless you are going to make money when you re-sell that stock very soon. You do not want to be absorbing storage costs indefinitely for stock that you have not yet sold.

Some Very Interesting January 2015 Statistics

Domain business, could it be the perfect home based business? Statistics

These days, many people are online. There were over 3,000,000,000 internet users by January 2015. In January 2015, there were over 876,000,000 websites out there. The websites that you see on the internet have a domain name associated with it.

The domain name is registered with a domain name registrar. There is a transaction to register a domain name. Money changed hands when very single one of those domain names was registered and again every time they are renewed.

Money also changes hands when a domain name is moved from one registrar to another registrar. I outlined my experiences in moving a domain name from one registar to another here as it is not always a simple trouble-free process.

I found that moving domains since I wrote that blog way more easier as I use the information in that blog as my checklist. I hope you do too if and when you move domain names from one registrar to another.

Domain Names Industry Is International In Scope

Domain business, could it be the perfect home based business? International In Scope

Because domain names are registered online, the buyers of domain names could be based anywhere on the planet where there is an internet connection and where they have access to an online payment method, like for example Paypal or a Credit Card.

The domain name business is international in scope. The buyer of a domain name could be based in Europe, yet the seller could be based in Asia with the domain name registrar based in the United States.

Domain Name Industry Is Huge

Now you may like me wonder why there is a huge difference in the number of domain names and the number of websites. To recap:

The very interesting January 2015 Statistics again:

Could Reason One Be Sub Domains?

Domain business, could it be the perfect home based business? One Reason?

Many domain names have a number of sub domains associated within it. They could have their own website of it. A separate sub domain could be used for their blogging activities. Another separate sub domain could be used for their support department. Another separate sub domain could be used for their helpdesk department. You might see these as BLOG.thewebsite.com or as SUPPORT.thewebsite.com or as HELP.thewebsite.com, no doubt you get the idea.

The SiteRubix.com domain has a number of sub domains where people can create and build their own websites on the internet. These websites are accessible on the internet. I personally think everyone should have their own website once they reach the appropriate age. It is actually very easy to create your own website as a sub domain website with the SiteRubix.com domain.

I personally now invite you to go here to read how, see a video going through this process and then I invite you to actually start building your own website yourself. If you have not already built a website, you will be surprised at how easy it is to do so there. Talk about using the latest technology advances to your best advantage. πŸ™‚

Could Reason Two Be To Protect Intellectual Property?

Domain business, could it be the perfect home based business? Second Reason?

Also many domain names are brought and never have a website associated with it for different reasons. One reason is to protect intellectual property, trademarks and the like.

These are some of the reasons why in my opinion there is a huge difference in those 2 figures. If you have any ideas on other reasons, please share them with the rest of the community by commenting below. Many thanks. πŸ™‚

  2. Hello David, this is so clear and thorough on how possible to start a home based business. You really revealed some statistics that many do not know, including me. Thank you for such a wonderful write up.

    • Hi Nnamdi,

My pleasure. Thank you for taking the time to read it. I had a great time researching the statistics earlier. I was really surprised initially to find out that the number of domain names was about one third of the number of web sites. Before I dug more into it, I thought that the ratio would have been closer to about one to one.

      Have a great day,
      Cheers,
      David

  4. As someone who finds herself purchasing domains like CANDY sometimes, this is a great idea! I never knew that something like this existed for the purchase of domain names. Until I began building websites, I didn’t have an idea that buying them would actually be a way to make money. Thank you for sharing this information on Domain Cost Club. Really interesting concept.

    • Hi Sarah,

I agree that this is a brilliant concept and idea. There are new domain extensions becoming available. There are some great deals on some of these domain extensions, which is adding a lot of variety to domain names. Some really big businesses are starting to use these as well. I mention some of them in my posts. This is a brilliant time to learn more about these new domain extensions, and of course the very familiar dot com extension names are also available here.

      Cheers,
      David

  5. One of the reasons there is a disparity between the number of websites and the number of domains is because a “subdomain” must be considered a website in which case platforms like tumblr and blogspot have millions of these alone (and of course SiteRubix does as well).

Domaineering can be a lucrative business if done right, but like an artist your revenue will be sporadic and very inconsistent. You have to a find a buyer for a domain and often times this can be much easier said than done.

The glory days of the late 1990’s are over for domain hoarders, but the opportunity still does exist to a certain degree. Very insightful info on domains.

    • Hi Kyle,

I found it very interesting a few weeks back when I was doing some research on this topic. I had of course assumed initially that the number of websites and the number of domain names would almost be a one to one ratio.

I was aware that businesses buy domain names to protect their intellectual property, and was aware that sites like SiteRubix would also have a number of “sub-domains” as well. I just didn’t expect the difference to be so big.

I personally think that a domain name should be active and have an active web site using it.

I am under the impression that domain hoarders are still around and assuming that they must be making some money, however maybe not as much as the glory days.

Thanks indeed for your insightful comments.

      Cheers,
      David

  7. I’ve heard that buying and selling domain names is a lucrative business if people use the right tools to do it.

I love the idea of building an online business with no stock to buy or hold because it removes all the hassle of selling on sites like eBay etc.

The domain industry certainly is huge and I didn’t realize just how many domains there are…. It’s incredible!

SiteRubix is also something I will be looking in to, so Thanks!

Thanks. Yes, it’s incredible the amount of possibilities there are out there that are related to the internet.

At this stage, I have a number of domain names out in the ‘wild’ built on the SiteRubix platform and I am thrilled.

This domain is registered with Domain Cost Club. I do not pay anywhere near the recommended price for domain names there and I also do not pay extra per year per domain name for domain privacy services either. Happy Days. πŸ™‚

  9. Hi David

Thanks for covering this I hadn’t heard of domain cost club before, although purchasing domain names was an area I have thought about at one stage.

I would be interested in knowing more about purchasing domain names but perhaps more small scale in an individual capacity rather than through an organisation such as Domain Cost Club and wondered if you had tried it and found it easy to manage and worthwhile?

    Reply
    • Hi Marie,

Purchasing domain names is something that many people and many organisations do in the natural course of their web businesses. Every single web domain name you see out there was obtained through a domain name registrar, like Domain Cost Club .

There are millions of web domain names out there at the moment.

If you buy a domain name, somewhere in the “food chain” for that purchase, is a domain name registrar. Domain Cost Club is one domain name registrar.

I used to registrar my domain names with another company. When I heard about Domain Cost Club, I tested them out. I found their support responsive. I would ask their support department a question online and it would get answered promptly and professional within a timely manner. Because I found their service great, after a few months, I had moved all of my domain names over to them. I also found their back office area where I manage my domain names to be way more easier to use.

From the point of view of a Domain Cost Club affiliate, it is a simple product. Domain Cost Club affiliates sell just one type of product, Memberships to allow people the β€œright” to buy domain names using their At-Cost Pricing model. Nothing more, nothing less. There are no additional marketing kits, seminars or purchases needed should you decide to refer other people to them like I do.

You can read my detailed review of Domain Cost Club here. I do not pay anywhere near the recommended price for domain names there and I also do not pay extra per year per domain name for domain privacy services either. Happy Days. πŸ™‚
